This heavy duty solid steel extra large safety pin is a really heavy duty friend. These are actually authentic Greek Pennanular pins of the type earliest discovered. You can use it as a simple but secure early period closure, as an authentic but inexpensive kilt pin or as a finial pin.
One of the best uses for these pins is to use then to fasten a heavy item, such as a wool cloak, then use a more decorative brooch on top. The decorative brooch is seen, while the steel pin takes the weight of the heavy fabric. This saves the more delicate item from the stress of holding the heavy fabric together. If the steel pin wears out, it is easily replaced with another, inexpensive pin while the more elaborate and decorative pin is saved to be ornamental.
These pins are useful for storing small items inside one's clothing. This is a great way to keep a small pouch of valuables away from the cut-purses. It is also a great way to secure valuable items such as car keys without having them look out of place on one's reenactment outfit during a fair, an event or rendezvous without worrying about losing them.
We use them to keep knitting counters untangled, and to keep small parts together during inventory. One of our Pillaged Village friends used hers as a key ring. The uses for this simple item are only limited by your imagination.
They are available in 2 inch, 2-1/2 and 3 inch lengths.
They come in both gold and silver tone stainless steel. The three inch size also comes in a black finish.
These pins (as well as many other items) are available in quantity to qualified retailers for wholesale purchase. Please inquire for additional information if you are interested in becoming a Pillaged Village wholesale customer.
